Bio

Andreea Chitan is a Romanian artist, curator, and creative producer based in Northern England . Her multidisciplinary practice moves fluidly between photography, moving image, installation, and text, forming a language that probes liminality—the spaces between places, identities, and states of being. Her work does not seek resolution but rather dwells in ambiguity, exploring how moments of transition, absence, and transformation might be visually articulated.

Chitan’s practice is underpinned by a critical inquiry into memory, identity, and the shifting architectures of perception. Her projects are not simply about storytelling, but about displacing the notion of fixed narratives altogether—reflecting instead on the fragmentary, the ephemeral, and the invisible. She is drawn to what resists classification, to the thresholds where personal and collective histories blur and reconfigure.

Simultaneously occupying the roles of artist, curator, and producer, Chitan cultivates a space where creation and facilitation coexist. Her curatorial and production work reflects a commitment to dialogue, care, and collaboration—foregrounding practices and artists that challenge dominant structures and embrace multiplicity. She approaches exhibition-making not just as a logistical exercise but as a conceptual extension of her own artistic ethos: an ongoing negotiation between form, audience, and context.

Chitan holds an MA in Photography from the Royal College of Art, where she developed an experimental and critically engaged methodology that continues to shape her evolving practice. Whether crafting her own work or producing for others, she remains dedicated to the generative potential of visual language—to create not answers, but openings.
